Common Terms & Phrases
Embroidery
This traditional method of decorating products is a popular favorite year after
year. It's an excellent way to add value to your next promotion.
Digitizing
Before your design can be embroidered, it must first be digitized. This is just
a technical term to describe the process involved in programming the embroidery
machine to stitch your logo accurately.
Domes
To add dimension and shine to your logo, place it under a clear, high-gloss polyurethane
dome.
Laser Engraving
Laser engraving gives your logo a clean, smooth, polished appearance and is perfect
on PromotionsForSuccess.com pens and other metal items. Laser engraved logos and/or
personalization is available on most PromotionsForSuccess.com pens. Standard placement
of images will be centered, clip top. Imprint sizes vary for each pen style. For
specific size information, please reference the individual item's listing.
Laser Engraving – on Select Drinkware Items
PromotionsForSuccess.com now offers even more decorating options for drinkware.
Four different types of laser engraving, as well as personalization are now available
on select drinkware with no setup charges.
Standard Laser
This method will clearly show off all the details of your logo and give it a clean,
smooth, polished appearance.
Laser Outline
Utilizes only an outline of your logo for a distinct, simple look. Available only
on stainless steel drinkware.
Standard Laser with Outline
A great new take on the standard laser. This method adds an outline around the logo
to really enhance its appearance. Available only on stainless steel drinkware.
Laser Oxidized
Make a statement with oxidation. Your logo is engraved onto the product with a special
process to darken the decoration. This special technique really makes your logo
pop.
Laser Engraving – On Watches
PromotionsForSuccess.com now offers another way to make that watch stand out. Standard
laser engraving is now available on the back of select watches, as well as personalization
with no setup charges.
LogoPad Banner
Another way to keep your company front and center is to place your logo on padfolio
writing tablets. You can choose from several color and imprint options that will
make your logo jump off the tablet banners. LogoPad Banners are available on standard
8.5" x 11" tablets.
Multi-Color Printing
Multi-Color Printing available on PromotionsForSuccess.com products in these four
methods
Direct Screen
Perfect for single color logos, direct screen printing involves pressing ink through
a fine mesh screen and onto a product's surface. It's an economical way to gain
high visibility.
Transfer
Multi-color logos are applied to products through the use of transfers. Your logo
is first reverse-screened onto a paper-like transfer material and then applied to
the material's surface with heat and pressure. It's ideal for bold, colorful logos
with sharp lines.
Photo Real
If you have a photo or artwork with intricate details, Photo Real is the answer.
Similar to the transfer method, Photo Real uses very fine halftones and an expanded
color range to capture the sharpness of the design and then to transfer it to the
product. If an exact PMS match is needed, spot colors may be required at an additional
cost.
Color Print
Gone are the days of the one-color laser method. You can now highlight your logo
in vivid color on pens, gift sets and desktop accessories with this unique new decorating
method.
Screen Print Recommendations
Not sure which method is right for you? Simply contact our Art Department at sales@PromotionsForSuccess.com
and we'll recommend a solution based on your artwork, your products, your goals
and your budget.
Deboss
Also referred to as blind deboss, this classic method allows you to leave an impression--or
rather, a depression-- of your logo onto a material's surface. We create a die and
then heat-press it into the material. What's left behind is a clean, crisp logo
you can see and feel. It's ideal on leather, durahyde and vinyl products.
Color Stamp
Add the high-end look of foil to your logo with color stamping. Simple one-color
designs are enhanced when a die is used to apply colored foil to a material's surface.
A wide variety of stock colors are available, including metallic gold and silver.
Color Fill
Color Fill combines color stamping and debossing. We create a die and first color
stamp your logo onto the surface, and then use that same die to deboss your logo
into the material. This method is available only on vinyl patches. NOTE: To prevent
degradation, we discard all magnesium dies and all screens 13 months following their
last use. Reorders placed after this time will incur set-up charges and be subject
to new art lead times.
Steel Threads Metal Logo
Perfect for logos with clean lines and minimal color, Steel Threads Metal Logos
are built to last, and built to leave a lasting impression.
Artwork Requirements
Vector Art
Vector art is always preferred. Fully vectorized files should be created in Adobe
Illustrator, or Corel Draw and saved in Adobe Illustrator *.ai or *.eps formats.
Any tints (shades of color/gray) must range between 30% and 70%. Graduated tints
must be comprised of one color only and fall into the above mentioned range. All
fonts contained in these file types should be converted to outlines (lines & curves).
The above mentioned formats will not be accepted with embedded or placed raster
images.
Scanned Images
Any raster images must be scanned from black and white camera ready art at a minimum
resolution of 600 dots per inch at 100% size or greater. All files should be bitmapped
(as opposed to color or grayscale) and contain no tints/halftones or colors (art
is 100% black). Low resolution formats such as *.jpeg, *.gif, *.pict, etc. are typically
not acceptable.
Multi-Color Imprint
We require fully vectorized art for printing multi-colored/close registering images.
Laser Engraving
Art supplied for laser engraving must be completely vectorized and cannot have any
tints, strokes or colors (images must be completely comprised of 100% solid black
fills). File formats such as *.tif, *.jpeg, *.pict, etc. cannot be utilized for
this process.
Four Color Process Imprint
Files supplied for 4 color process must conform to the standards mentioned in the
first two paragraphs above with the following exceptions; minimum resolution must
be 300 dots per inch or greater @ 100% size, tints can range between 0% and 100%
and can be comprised of multiple colors, and trapping is not applicable. Note that
a minimum of 1/8" bleed over and above the actual imprint area size is required
for any 4 color process imprint bleeding over the edge of the decoration area. The
use of straight borders close to the edge of any of the above is not recommended.
Please be advised that due to fluctuations in material, temperature, and process
there will be noticeable variation in color when producing 4 color process jobs.
Exact PMS color matching cannot be guaranteed for all four color process imprints
and a customer supplied color hard copy will be mandatory for all jobs of this nature.
Should a color hard copy not be available for color matching, you will be asked
to approve the production of the order "as-is" (whatever color is produced will
be acceptable to you).
Camera Ready Art Specifications
Acceptable camera ready art must be output at 600 dots per inch (or higher) @ 100%
size; laser outputs, PMT paper, and positive film would all be acceptable. All art
must be supplied as a composite and color broken (if applicable). Faxes, photocopies,
business cards, hand renderings, etc. will not be accepted as camera ready art.
Folded artwork or ripped paper will need to be redone. Our art department can help
you if necessary.
Hard Copy
A digitally delivered PDF file, or a faxed/physically delivered hard copy is required
to accompany all artwork/purchase order submissions, with color breaks indicated
(if applicable), before any order will be processed. If any changes, additions or
modifications to the artwork are required, please mark clearly on the PDF file/hard
copy.
The "Distortion Factor"
Due to the varied nature and multidimensional curvatures existing on much of PromotionsForSuccess.com
product line. A slightly noticeable distortion of an unknown degree may occur when
imprinting some products with square, rectangular, or round images.
What You See Is What You Get
If black and white art, or when your electronic art is printed (created on a computer),
is jagged or of poor quality, that is exactly how it will appear on your final product
unless you request the art to be recreated (for an additional charge). Look over
the artwork carefully to be sure that the quality of the image represents exactly
what you want imprinted on your product.
File Formats That We Will Need To Redraw Through Our Art Department
Any word publishing document, Microsoft PhotoDraw, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft
Excel, Microsoft Publisher, FreeHand, PageMaker, Adobe Image Ready.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Vector Art?
Vector art is a line/curve based digital file consisting of created paths and points
using a program such as Illustrator or CorelDraw. The program keeps track of the
relationships between these points and paths. Vector images are not resolution based
(pixels) and can be scaled infinitely, both up and down, with no loss of clarity
or quality. These images are defined as solid objects, and can be moved around in
full, or grouped together with other objects.
What Is A Raster Image?
A raster image is a scanned or placed image that can be in color, gray scale, or
black and white, whose clarity is dependent upon the resolution. The resolution
of a raster graphic is the number of dots/pixels per inch of graphic. Therefore,
the higher the resolution, the more crisp the image will be.
What Is Camera Ready Art?
Camera ready art is artwork that can be scanned without any preparation or changes.
Type and images are sharp, clean and consistent in density. Art is black and white
only and does not contain any colors or tints (shades of color/gray).
What Is Not Camera Ready Art?
Camera ready art is physical artwork that can be digitally scanned without any preparation
or changes. Type and images are sharp, clean and consistent in density. Art is black
and white only and does not contain any colors or tints (shades of color/gray).
Why Should I Convert My Fonts To Outlines?
Every computer has font files installed on it. However, not everyone has the same
fonts installed on their computers. If we do not have the exact same font that the
text was created in, the text will 'default' to a less attractive font. Converting
fonts to outlines (lines and curves) ensures that the text is exactly how you want
it to look. It is no longer necessary for anyone else to have the associated font
installed on their computer.
Important Things To Remember
- What product is your art going on? This is paramount food for thought as the planning
stages of your order. Proactive planning produces the most trouble free experience.
- Note the imprint area size. Will the intended imprint be legible when reduced to
fit the image area? Two pages of type imprinted on a pen will probably not work
out.
- Is the imprint area on the product portrait or landscape? Is your intended imprint
bigger length-wise or height-wise? Choosing an appropriate product/imprint combination
will ensure your customer is delighted with the end results.
- Does the art contain a lot of detail or small text. Perhaps simplifying the logo
(choosing what parts are most important), or choosing a product with a larger imprint
area will product better results.
- Is there any text in reverse (i.e. white text on black) ? Reverse (negative) text
needs to be slightly larger to print legibly. More often than not, a postitive imprint
produces positive results!
- How many imprint colors are allowed for the chosen product? Certain products can
only be printed with 1 or 2 colors maximum. Please see product pages for details
to avoid disappointment later on.
